Our Origins and Story

Baja's Edge was born from our passion for sharing authentic, conservation-focused adventures in Baja California Sur with small groups and genuine connections to nature.

Meet the Guides Behind Every Adventure

Hi! We’re Carlos Gajón and Román Cahero, the co-founders of Baja’s Edge Adventures. After years of guiding for leading local and international companies, we decided it was time to bring everything we’d learned into our own project, one that reflects our passion, experience and personality. Based in La Paz, Baja California Sur, we’re naturalist guides, your attentive hosts, and the hands behind every detail of Baja’s Edge.

Our specialty? Small-group, naturalist-led adventures across the Sea of Cortez islands, Magdalena Bay and Loreto. Think whale watching, snorkeling with whale sharks and curious sea lions, hiking desert trails, wildlife photography outings, immersive food experiences, and multi-day glamping under Baja’s star-filled skies.

We keep it relaxed yet refined handpicked stays, seamless logistics, and itineraries that move at your rhythm. With over 25 years of combined experience, we bring together science-based storytelling, deep respect for wildlife, and just the right touch of humor and Baja magic. Education and conservation are at the core of what we do, they don’t just enhance the trip, they shape every single one.

Carlos Gajón

Co-Founder & Lead Naturalist Guide

Carlos is one of the most charismatic and knowledgeable naturalist guides you'll meet in Baja. A La Paz native, he grew up fishing with his grandfather on the Sea of Cortez and began guiding sea kayaking trips in 1998. With over 28 years of experience, he's worked with prestigious international adventure companies across Baja California Sur and holds certifications as an ACA Sea Kayak Instructor and Wilderness First Responder.

Though he once studied international law, Carlos quickly realized that life behind a desk wasn't for him. Today, he's in his element leading trips on the water, capturing stunning wildlife photography, sharing his deep knowledge of marine ecosystems, and mentoring the next generation of guides who carry forward Baja's Edge commitment to conservation and authentic adventure.

Roman Cahero

Co-Founder & Lead Naturalist guide

Originally from Mexico City, Román moved to La Paz in 1999 to study Marine Biology at the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur. During his college years, he discovered his passion for sea kayaking and adventure travel, earning certifications from the Irish Canoe Union, the American Canoe Association, and as a Wilderness First Responder. His love for sea kayaking and adventure travel led him to guide expeditions in Baja and in international destinations including Iceland, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

Today, Román combines naturalist guiding with organizing nature trips, culinary experiences and wildlife photography expeditions across Mexico and beyond. In every experience, he aims to create meaningful moments that connect people with nature while inspiring conservation and protecting our planet’s biodiversity.
