On the wild Pacific coast of Baja California Sur, just 2.5 hours from La Paz, lies the fishing community of Puerto Chale—a rising star in the world of whale watching. Each winter, gray whales gather in the southern waters of Magdalena Bay, making this one of the best places in Baja to encounter these giants of the Pacific.
Here, close to shore yet framed by desert and sea, every outing feels both wild and immediate, offering travelers a rare chance to connect with whales in their natural element. Puerto Chale’s unique location makes it a prime destination for those seeking close, respectful interactions with these gentle giants, while enjoying the ease of quick access from La Paz.
Tucked just 5 km from the water, in the heart of the desert, is Waikuri Eco Ranch your home for this unforgettable journey. Here, rustic beauty meets comfort: spacious glamping tents with real beds, fine linens, and private bathrooms bring you closer to nature without sacrificing ease. By day, you’ll venture out to meet whales, explore mangroves, and discover birdlife. By night, you’ll gather under Baja’s star-filled skies with good food, drinks, and stories shared around the fire.
This 4-day / 3-night adventure blends the thrill of whale encounters with the tranquility of desert glamping and the flavors of chef-prepared meals. It’s more than a trip—it’s a front-row seat to one of nature’s greatest spectacles, wrapped in Baja’s warmth and hospitality.
